The presentation also gave pointers on how private investors should hold diversified portfolios for the same purpose eg minimising risk, maximising returns and beating inflation. The conclusion was that TRF investment committee managed to achieve a reasonable return avarage on the last 5 years, in spite of the turbulent international markets. Water for Life: A different look at Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam

  • October 17, 2017
  • Egypt

The knowledgeable geologist Prof .Dr.Abbass Mohamed Al Sharaky, head of Natural Resources Department, Institute of African Studies, Cairo University illuminated us on this Dam that Egypt feels will threaten its water share future.
Dr. Sharaky explained that from a geological point of view the land under and around this dam is unstable and unplantable, thus posing a threat of cracking and fracturing leading to the total destruction of Sudan through flooding while Egypt staying safe due to the high dam and Toshka overflow channel. The dam is being funded by the pennies of the 110 million Ethiopians who expect it to change their lives through more electricity and agricultural land but who will be sorely disappointed by its results when the electricity is exported rather than channeled to their homes.
The dam though, will be ready to hold water next Summer and so, are we ready to use our resources wisely.
