Rotary Club of 6th of October Shams

Second Screening Project for Hepatitis Virus C and B

For the second year in a row, RC 6 October Shams and RC Palm Hills joined to screen for hepatitis virus C and additionally for hepatitis virus B, the labor force at Palm Hills for free and the residents' domestic helpers for a reduced rate that their employers pay. Last year those screened were about 600 but this year, those who have registered for screening are 1200. That has required our campaign to be extended from 2 days to 4 while also continuing to screen in the evening to allow for the night shift. Notably those found positive for either disease will be treated by the national health services.

Cooperation to provide media rooms for the disabled in public schools

PP Gasser Awad, District 2451 disability service committee chair, presents the project the district is encouraging all clubs to participate in. Egyptian education law stipulates that disabled individuals with a mental capacity of 60% should be merged in public school education. To enable these individuals to join the national curriculum, a media room with special visual and sensory educational aids has to be provided in every school. Rotary Clubs help by together providing 30 such media rooms in Sohag Governorate in the South of Egypt. The funds provided by clubs will be matched by District . A humanitarian project much needed.

Blood Donation Drive at Sheikh Zayed City

This is the second time this year that RC 6 October Shams has initiated a blood donation drive dedicated to the Ministry of Health National Blood Bank. It started on Friday 9 March 2018 morning at Mazar Mall in Sheikh Zayed and moved in the afternoon to Arkan Mall. Through the insistence of our members, we were able to collect 40 bags.

Interact club’s visit to orphanage

Rotary Club 6 October Shams is happy to see its Interact Club which is made up of young people aged 12 to 18 start their community service role this year by visiting an orphanage in 6 October on. The club members and Interactors provided needed supplies and playthings, but most of all they played with the kids and gave them a fun time. Mai Mandour led this activity with the help of Bella Kamel.

Breast Cancer Awareness and Child Nutrition Seminar

Sustaining RC Shams October efforts to improve people's health through disease prevention, our club, on Thursday 11 January 2018 held a breast cancer awareness session at the ngo Nahdet El Mansouria for Development targeting community women over the age of 40. The team stressed self examination, as early detection is the sure road to cure. Many questions were answered and the session got more value with the healthy nutrition how and why that was given by our member Dr. Hala Zidan.

Child Nutrition Seminar at the Egyptian Women’s Council

Rotarians are leaders in their professions and our member Pediatrician Dr. Hala Zidan is no exception. She gave an informative presentation about newborn nutrition at the Egyptian Women's Council under the auspices of their committee for health and population head, Dr. Ahlam Hanafy and Dr. Hanan Gweifel Rotary District 2451 head of committee for maternal and child health. We are proud to have Dr. Hala as our fellow Rotarian and a leader in our Rotary Club October Shams .
